With people around the world embarking on the season of goodwill, Electrolux Professional has made its own charitable start to the period by helping homeless people in the South East of England.
As part of its continued mission to Shape Living for the Better, the global manufacturer worked with local Charity, Off The Fence, to establish a mobile laundry van which would give practical support to homeless individuals in and around Brighton.
With the city possessing a homeless population which is second only to London, Off The Fence has been working to address social issues in Brighton for 20 years. After the two myPRO washing machines and two dryers to the charity’s Antifreeze project had been donated, the equipment was installed inside a specially-adapted vehicle which could be taken to provide free laundry facilities around the region.
Having launched in early December, the van now provides individuals throughout the area with an opportunity to regularly wash and dry their garments, helping to bring dignity and integrity to those without shelter.
Paul Young, CEO for Off The Fence commented: “Maintaining good hygiene is incredibly important to a person’s health and wellbeing. Clean clothes are a key part of that, so we hope that providing homeless people with adequate facilities will help us to reduce preventable health conditions and improve conditions for people sleeping rough.”
Landry Guillochon, Global Segment Manager for Care at Electrolux Professional, commented: “As a manufacturer, we are always looking for ways that our business can make a positive difference to those around us. We were only too happy to be able to use our laundry expertise to assist in the great work which is carried out by Off The Fence.
“During my short walk to the launch of the mobile van, I passed five homeless people who were camped with their mattresses along Brighton’s seafront. That’s when it hit home that what we were doing was both necessary and worthwhile. It is a very real and practical example of Electrolux’s purpose – to Shape Living For The Better – in action.”
