In the St. Josef therapeutic home in Würzburg, 82 children, adolescents, and young adults aged 4 to 21 receive care. This youth welfare facility provides intensive therapeutic and remedial treatment and care in both individual and small group settings. It is also a member of the ÜBBZ Würzburg youth welfare association.
Regarding accommodation, great emphasis is placed on healthy nutrition. Therefore, the home has its own kitchen, which provides complete meals for the children, adolescents, and staff. Five employees prepare up to 120 hot meals daily, in addition to preparing and serving breakfast and dinner.
Built in 1982, the kitchen underwent a comprehensive makeover in the summer of 2024 after 42 years of service. This renovation was not just about updating the kitchen with the latest technology; rather, a complete overhaul was necessary, including upgrades to the building, ventilation, and security systems.
Specialist planner and general contractor Gerald Zirkelbach oversaw the entire planning and execution of the project. Working alongside the team from Electrolux Professional, he successfully completed the full renovation in just 12 weeks
“Since the renovation had to take place during ongoing operations, we scheduled the majority of the work for the summer holidays,” explains Gerald Zirkelbach.
A temporary kitchen was set up to provide ongoing supplies during the renovation phase.
