An inspiring and educational visit!
Stalsberg residential home is located at Strømmen, Lillestrøm community close to Oslo. This is a nursing home with 56 residents. We went to look at their laundry facilities and the latest addition of Line 6000 washing machines and tumble dryers from Electrolux Professional. At the same time, we had a chat with the employees and their manager, Åse Lindal.
In the laundry, all bedlinen and staffs work wear are washed and processed. Åse Lindal is responsible for five laundries in the municipality. With the latest machine upgrade at Stalsberg with 2 x WH6-20, the laundry increased its capacity with approx. 100%. Within the same space!
Lots of knowledge and the importance
of sharing it!
Unit Manager Health – Cleaning & Laundry, Åse Lindal, willingly tells us the importance of a well-functioning laundry – with focus on hygiene, knowledge and well-being. After more than 30 years within this business, Lindal really has the knowledge and expertise. In addition, she has an incredible commitment, enthusiasm and shares willingly the knowhow.
For the employees this must be a good and inspiring place to work, but also a recognition for the important work they do.
Some figures and calculations:
The washing machine, which is a WH6-20 washer, has a drum volume of 180 liters, and here theoretical and practical knowledge goes hand in hand. It is all about the level of filling, capacity, wash program, cycle time and kilos of dried and finished textiles.
In this laundry, approx. 150 kilos of textiles are processed per day – 260 days/year (5 days a week). Today, they use 1,5 full time employees. If the number of staff or residents increase, the employees must also be increased by the hour.
Theoretically the volume is: 180 liters + 180 liters + 60 liters capacity = 420 liters x 7 cycles (1 hour) = 2940 liters capacity. Fill factor is no more than between 1:12 to 1:15 on average, which means at least 196 kilos of laundry processed per day. This again means that they have free capacity in washing, as they currently process 150 kilos on average per day (utilization rate today is 77% theoretical capacity). There must be free capacity for service etc. Dryers must have at least twice the capacity to washers.
From dryers directly to shelves. Staff uniforms are put directly on to cloth hangers, and sent to wardrobes on racks, says Lindal. She also expresses the importance of having a service agreement on the laundry equipment. They have service on washers once a year and on tumble dryers twice a year.
The laundry – a very important “function”
During the pandemic extra focus has been placed on hygiene, cleaning and the industry in general, but Lindal praises her employees and she is clear that this work needs to be appreciated more. Imagine – in just two working days without an operating laundry, everything would stop. No clean staff uniforms, no bedlinen, no clean towels etc.
“Why Electrolux Professional?”
“Skilled and high knowledge of the people working in Electrolux Professional. The machines are ergonomically correct and are very good to work with from feeding clothes from the washer to dryer. And lint filter correctly placed in a nice working height” says Åse Lindal responsible for five laundries in the municipality
